Some Observations on the Clearview AI Facial Recognition System – From Someone Who Has Actually Used It….
The Clearview facial recognition search engine, and its licensing to law enforcement agencies, has attracted significant commentary, criticism and some legal challenges. Unfortunately, much of the commentary has mischaracterized the actual functionality of the system and how it works in the hands of a criminal investigator. As someone who was invited to test the system, I offer the attached article describing my experience with Clearview and what it does (and does not do) with the objective to clarify and focus the discussion regarding the use of facial recognition search engines by both law enforcement and the public at large.
